I'm a Prankster!

Hope you had a great April Fool's Day filled with fun! We certainly did. Saturday night, my husband, Jake and I stayed up late to prepare for the morning to come! My daughter Chrissie and my niece Emma were in for quite a few surprises! Oh the anticipation that was in the house that morning when they started to get up! I'm going to mentally walk you through the fun and laughter that was had in our home this April Fool's Day!

The girls get up and start scrambling around! The first thing I have them do is go to the kitchen sink to wash their hands. This usually takes place in the bathroom but I had something up my sleeve...
Following a light shower, I tell them to go to they should go to the bathroom, this is when I hear a scream and apparently this was discovered...
This prank is accommodated with a flat plastic spider rolled up into the toliet paper, so it will come spiraling out at just the right moment! LOL! Oh the screams followed by laughter...

So onto the kitchen, where at this point they are starting to get paranoid, with good reason, Jake and I tell them to get some bowls and fix themselves some cereal...
The night before I had switched out the cereal. Chrissie swings the cabinet door open to get the bowls and out comes a huge plastic rat from Halloween! She ran backwards yelling then began laughing, and telling me "that is enough MOM!!!" "Knock it off!" ! Of course, I will....
Yea right!
So Emma begins to pour the cereal, and this is what's for breakfast...
Then Chrissie gets the milk out of the fridge and it's orange! "What's this?" LOL! It's carrot juice, and it is great with dog bone cereal! EWWW!
"Okay, Okay, I'll get you some cereal." I tell them, and I do... You should've seen their faces when they finally think it's over and they dig into their bowls and it's frozen.
They think I've super-glued their cereal! It was hilarious! At last, we let them eat!
Now they should go brush their teeth. There is mustard toothpaste awaiting them, but they don't trust anything at this point... So they caught me on that one.

Later that day my daughter gets the silverware out for our dinner, this is where she finds a plastic hand lying in the silverware tray! She screams and laughs some more!
Then she gets to the dining room table where she finds this...
OH NO!!!
Oh My, this isn't good at all!
"Chrissie, what have you done?" I ask...
"I didn't do it!" She begins repeating! She started to freak out a little when we began to laugh, Once again, she had been got!!!! :) Too much fun! I can't wait until next year!

Also that day I did a pretty challenging April Fool's Day 5k! Water balloons, squirt guns, Popsicles, an inflatable obstacle course prior to the finish line, and tons of hills!
WOW!
I did it!
This is me:
Here is the obstacle course:

This concludes our April Fool's Day of 2012, it was a fantastic!

My Sweet Art!

Just thought I would post some of my sweet art!
Once upon a time not so long ago, a little girl who thinks she is a princess was born! ;)
This would be my daughter, Chrissie. One year later following the birth of the little girl who thinks she is a princess, her Mother, (myself) was introduced to a world of powdered sugar, eggs, flour, batter, etc. You follow me... Emphasis on "thinks" not "thought", she does think she is a princess of sorts, and I guess in some ways she is. She is our princess!
Too bad I'm not a queen, I could use the whole "off with their head" demand from time to time. J/K, of course.
So began my introduction into cake decorating/design! It was Chrissie's first birthday, and she needed a worthy cake. Looking back now, not so much the case, but practice makes perfect.
"A+" for effort, right?
So as the years go by, I decide that I should brush up on some skills, so I took a couple of classes at a local craft store to pick up on some techniques and the rest is self taught.

Here is my latest cake:
Blue's Clues.
Blue skadoo's and I can too!
Some of the details...
Mr Salt, Mrs. Pepper, & Paprika
Top of the cake...
Shovel and Pail...
Tree with tire swing...
All details on this cake were made of MMF fondant.
(Marshmallow Fondant)

Another favorite of mine is the Magic cake...
I won a Cake Boss contest with this one!
Mandy (Bff), Buddy (The Cake Boss), and myself!
Note: This is not a good photo of us.
I'm not sure what kind of lens was on this camera, but NOT COOL.
Still a good memory and quite an experience.

I also recently did this Rubick's Cube Cake...
There are many more, and many more to come I am certain.

Happenings

It's been a while, but I'm back and I do believe you'll be hearing a lot more from me in the near future. There are many things going on here in Krystal land. One thing I am tickled about is that Spring is here! Trust me, I am beyond thrilled winter has come and gone. I can truly say I almost despise cold weather! We have been very fortunate that our winter this year was very mild. I know Winter isn't that bad here in NC, but I just don't like it regardless. My family and I have been enjoying being outdoors more, and getting things spruced up for the upcoming months of fun, warm sunshiny days! We have already been playing badminton frequently! (One of my many favorite things to do!)The biggest thing going on right now in our families life, is the upcoming surgery my daughter is scheduled to have on April 11th. My daughter, Chrissie had a skull fracture at birth, which also caused a brain bleed. She has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, due to this birth injury. Shortly following birth as if that weren't a challenge in itself, we also find out she has a rare genetic disorder called Incontentia Pigmenti. No one in our families has had this but they say a gene mutated and this was the result. So you would think after hearing all that, that our daughter must not be in good health, but that is sooo far from the truth. We are the very proud parents of a ten year old beautiful, smart, loving, capable child who inspires me more than words can express. She truly is my heart running around outside of my body! She is a fighter. She is so strong and brave and I am amazed by here constantly. The upcoming surgery is to straighten her legs. Over time some of her weakness and tense muscles have caused her legs to pull and fall into each other more, so this is a recommended solution. Needless to say, I am extremely emotional about this whole obstacle ahead of her, but I know just as she has shown me before, she will come out of this stronger and better! But oh my, Mama is about to lose it! When you say your prayers, I would greatly appreciate if you could slip one in for my sweet daughter.
Chrissie, the little model!
My sister in law made the cutest and most special tutu for Chrissie!
Thanks Amy!

Also approaching is Easter weekend! My daughter and I love this because it is a time of excitement, and happenings. It is also time of reflection, and appreciation for us. Chrissie always gets really excited about Easter, almost as much as Christmas! Easter weekend this year also has another great occasion! My Nanny's 70th birthday! She means the world to me, and to my family! I love you Nanny! She is one person that I can always count on regardless of what is going on. She is one of the most giving people I have ever known. Jokingly, I will admit two traits that I know came from her without denial. 1.) My lack of patience, she and I are in this boat together, 2.) My/her backside. Wow, it can be quite a trait to have, but you better love some squats! ;) Again, I Love You Nanny & Happy Birthday!

I recently ran my second 5k. I had the pleasure of running it with two of my bestest friends in the whole wide world, Mandy Coman and Jeannie Gentry. Wow! I was like "What was I thinking?" after the first kilometer. It's ok to laugh, it's funny NOW... It was an accomplishment for sure. I was lighter the first time around, but I made better time with the this past one, so I have gotten better! YAY ME! My next 5k is planned for May, so wish me luck. I'm gonna make better time again! GOAL SET! Still have quite a ways to go, but I WILL get there. My best friend (Mandy) and I have been working out now for a while, and for a while it was hit and miss, but not anymore! We are very committed to our health and fitness now and work out consistently 5-6 times a week. We have actually had to realize that we actually overdo it frequently. I am so proud of us, we have made great progress! We still have a lot ahead of us, but WE GOT THIS! We have discovered muscles we had no clue existed! Whether you are or are not working towards being a healthier you, remember you can do this, start out slow and work yourself into it. You are stronger than you think. Just make the commitment and your body will have no choice but to change! I know, I know, easier said than done, but
YOU GOT THIS!

I have also done some more cakes recently that are worth mentioning... but that's coming soon!
I know, I'm a tease. ;)

Halloween!

Halloween 2011!

Halloween is a time for great fun. A time to embrace our inner youth, and be creative. A time to let your imagination run wild! It's the one day of the year that is perfectly acceptable to be anything you want! So as usual, my husband and I dress up and we accompany our daughter out and about for trick or treating fun!

This year we invited our great friend, Mandy and her children to join us,
the more the merrier, or spookier in this case!!! Bwahahahaha!
She is a talented artist, and she so graciously helped to paint us up for our adventures into the darkness!
Introducing,
Myself as Dollface, Jacob as electrocuted guy, and Chrissie as a witch!
Every year our daughter, Chrissie, usually wants to be something pretty, preppy, or fabulous. It truly is just her style, it fits her personality. She is indeed a girly girl, which I love. So, I was quite surprised when she said she wanted to be a witch or vampire. She switched between these frequently, but then settled upon the decision that she wanted to be a scary witch. Oh what fun!
She looked fantastically frightening! What a wonderful witch!

Earlier that day I baked up some poison Halloween cake (green colored cake). Naomi, (Mandy's daughter) was enjoying a piece of poison cake when her younger brother, Lucas came into the dining area, Naomi then falls out onto the floor and pretends that the cake has sucked the life right out of her. This was very theatrical and too funny! Of course, this resulted in Lucas refusing to eat any cake. He looked at us as if we were all crazy for eating this green cake that is poison. It was quite amusing. The contradicting thing here is that green cake spooks him, but he would eat a bowl of chocolate icing in a heartbeat, while saying it is made of diarrhea, and that boogers are the secret ingredient. Silly boy!

So out and about we go all happy and eager to rack up on some candy! I remember when I was a kid, I could trick or treat all night, I didn't want to stop. Keep the candy coming, but not our kids, they go to a few streets, then they begin to get tired. Not sure what that is about... Guess it isn't that big of a deal to them, so they were ready to come back to the house. It worked out well, because it was quite chilly here, and it was a school night too. Besides, all that candy is unhealthy anyway!
The group!
We all had a lot of fun! Hope that your Halloween was awesome also!

30 days of Thankfulness

30 Days Of Thankfulness...
Thanksgiving is soon approaching and as this is a time to give thanks, I thought that I would share daily something that I am thankful for over the next 30 days. I am also doing this on Facebook, but instead of a status update, I thought it might be nice to take the time to really embrace and take some time out of each day to reflect and appreciate the things in my life that I am truly thankful for, things that God has so graciously blessed me with. These are things that make my life extremely special.

‘Enter His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise! Give thanks and bless
His name for the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations’.
Psalm 100:4 & 5

~Day 1~
Today, I am thankful for the blessing of my daughter. My miracle! Her existence has brightened my life in countless ways.

As a teenager I was diagnosed with Endometriosis, which caused me to be infertile. I was told there was no chance, even surgically that I would ever conceive a child. This was difficult for my family, and myself to accept at first, but just simply became a harsh reality. Years later, after meeting and falling in love with another one of my blessings in my life, we we're expecting! This also came as quite a shock, considering this wasn't physically, or surgically possible, but of course, became the best thing to ever occur in our lives!
Explanation:
So not only am I thankful for my daughter, but I am thankful for the miracle it took to make me her Mommy!

On that July day, selfishness, and irresponsibility was gone, and in it's place was joy, and a love that I never knew existed. A love so strong that is indescribable. So today, I take the time to appreciate and respect the blessing of my daughter and the opportunity God gave me to be her Mommy and experience a love like no other!

She is my sunshine!
